Shilpavana, Kannada Vishwavidyalaya - part 1

ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ~ Kannada University is at Kamalapur, near Hampi. Situated next to a lake and surrounded by woods. Trees and rocks create a peaceful atmosphere in the campus. The university is not a place only for professors and students but also for anyone who's interested in history and art.

It was holiday at the university, a day for resting after a 3-day cultural event. Except for security a guard and an attender the campus was deserted. Our two hour tour started at the library building 'Cheluva Kannadanadu'. The open museum has an interesting collection of ancient sculptures gathered from various historical places across Karnataka. Next we moved to Shilpavana ~ rock art garden. Shilpavana is a collection of modern sculptures created by students - ideas and experiments - a very interesting place. We spent most of the time here. Then we went for a walk around the campus, saw the admin building 'Adhyayananga' and then back to the main entrance. We missed out Navaranga the open-air auditorium resembling Greek theatre situated on the banks of the lake and Girisime the tribal village. ...some other day.
